Most things people rent storage for are straightforward: furniture during a move, boxes of books, sports equipment, tools or business inventory. There are limits, however. They exist to prevent fire, smells, pests, leaks and damage to neighbouring units.
Short answer: a storage unit can generally hold dry furniture, boxes, sports equipment, tools and ordinary business inventory. Hazardous materials, fuel, perishable goods, plants, animals, waste and illegal goods are prohibited at Flexistock.
The short rule is: clean, dry, legal, non-perishable and free of active hazards. If an item is unusual, ask the site manager for written confirmation before moving it.
What can usually be stored?
Furniture and household goods: cabinets, tables, chairs, sofas, mattresses, tableware and decoration, provided everything is clean and completely dry.
Boxed personal belongings: books, clothes, toys, photo albums and seasonal items, packed securely and preferably inventoried.
Sports and hobby equipment: bicycles, skis, camping gear and tools after dirt, moisture and any fuel have been removed.
Business goods: dry retail stock, promotional material, archives, parts and equipment that create no unusual risk and require no continuous power.
Electronics: generally suitable when dry, switched off and unplugged. Ask for advice about sensitive or valuable equipment.
What is prohibited at Flexistock?
The general terms exclude categories including:
Hazardous or flammable materials: chemicals, radioactive materials, fireworks, petrol, diesel and similar products.
Perishable goods: food and anything that may spoil, leak, smell or attract pests.
Animals, plants and waste: living organisms and waste do not belong in a storage unit.
Illegal or stolen goods: Belgian law applies at all times.
Cash and exceptionally valuable goods: securities, gemstones, expensive art or items with high emotional value are excluded without prior written permission.
Equipment drawing continuous power: only possible with Flexistock’s prior written approval.
A unit must not be used as accommodation, a shop, workshop, registered office, postal address or company seat.
Vehicles and machinery: ask first
Motorcycles, vehicles and heavy machinery have additional conditions. Fuel must be kept to a minimum, leaks must be prevented and valid insurance may be required. Never bring these items to the site without prior agreement.
Permitted does not always mean advisable
Some belongings are not prohibited but need extra thought. Sensitive electronics, antiques, musical instruments, art and documents can react to changes in temperature or humidity. Discuss the available ventilation and unit type, and check whether your insurance covers the true value.
The same applies to furniture. It must be dry and correctly wrapped. Use breathable covers, protect corners and keep heavy boxes off fragile surfaces.
